After a few months of “offseason” training, I am ready to start prepping to lift in the Life of Strength Brewdown in two months. The PLU Carolinas folks put on great meets, and I’m excited to do another one with them.
Back in November, I met my goal of a 1200lb total in competition. In March, I am aiming for a 1250 total. I’ve linked the recaps of all three of my previous meets at the bottom of this post, but it’s been exciting to see the progress unfold.
7/2023: 1063 total (380 squat, 248 bench, 435 deadlift)
8/2023: 1102 (386, 259, 457)
11/2024: 1201 (413, 265, 523)
Offseason training has been going well—I’ve hit several PRs on specialty bars/lifts such as camber bar squats and deficit deadlifts. I’m looking forward to pushing the envelope on the competition squat, bench, and deadlift.
After this meet, the plan is to start an endurance block and drop some body fat. I have been hanging out around 195lbs, but I am much more comfortable closer to 180lbs.
I post the majority of my training on Instagram, so feel free to follow along.
My First Powerlifting Meet
“Bar is loaded!” shouts the head referee as the master of ceremonies calls my name.
My Second Powerlifting Meet
Over the weekend, I took part in my second powerlifting meet, just six weeks removed from my first. Doing two meets so close together is not considered “optimal” in powerlifting, but I planned to do so intentionally. The goal for the first meet was nothing more than to gain some exposure, have fun, and avoid “bombing out”--if you fail to record at least…
Powerlifting Meet Recap
In February, I got to knock out the first of my two big fitness goals for 2024 — complete a 50km trail ultramarathon.
