I started this silly blog in January of 2023, and this is my 100th consecutive week of posting. It is cool to look back at how different my life was then and appreciate the memories and accomplishments since.
I mostly started this to write about training, so here are some relevant accomplishments since the beginning of 2023.
Added about 60 pounds to my squat, 15 pounds to my bench press, and nearly 100 pounds to my deadlift.
Put on about 10 pounds of muscle.
Competed in powerlifting three times.
Ran four trail races, including my first ultramarathon.
Ran over 1,300 miles.
Helped grow my lifting club’s membership and philanthropy efforts.
Had two articles published by EliteFTS, one by the Garage Gym Competition, and one by Strength is MINE.
Outside of training and writing, I got married, started a business, got involved in my church, and met a lot of other personal goals.
I consider myself a happy and successful person for a few reasons:
I enjoy the process of working towards goals and am content with the work rather than pushing happiness to the far side of accomplishment. I try to avoid feeling like I am chasing things.
I show up consistently. I’m not a genetically-gifted athlete, and I’m definitely not a genius. There is nothing special about me outside of my willingness to be disciplined and consistent in the work that I do.
I ask for help when I need it and I try to help others when they are in need.
With all this in mind, I am going to take a break from posting weekly on Substack. I will definitely still be writing when I can, and this is not the end of the blog. I just need a break as my schedule has gotten more crowded and posting has come to feel like a chore in some weeks.
